Ustwo, Creator of Monument Valley, Shifts Focus to PC Development
Ustwo, a renowned game development studio based in London, has announced a strategic shift towards PC-centric game development. According to CEO Maria Sayans, this move is driven by the company's desire to forge more direct relationships with its audience and create games without the compromises that often come with mobile-first development. Although Ustwo has historically been associated with mobile gaming, having successfully brought titles like Monument Valley and Alba: A Wildlife Adventure to PC, the studio now aims to lead with PC development. Sayans noted that being perceived as a mobile-first studio can limit a game's potential on PC and console, influencing both product design and marketing strategies. By prioritizing PC, Ustwo seeks to build stronger, more direct connections with its community. The studio has not abandoned its mobile and console endeavors but is instead adopting a more deliberate approach to audience engagement across different platforms. This strategic adjustment comes as Ustwo has multiple game projects in development, with announcements expected in the future. Additionally, the studio recently navigated the unexpected removal of Monument Valley 3 from Netflix, leveraging this opportunity to rework the game's ending and post-launch content to better suit a premium product, which was then swiftly released on consoles and app stores.
