Discord Files Confidentially for IPO, According to Reports
Reports have emerged that Discord, a leading chat platform for gamers, is taking steps towards a potential initial public offering. According to sources, the company has submitted a confidential filing for its IPO, with the assistance of Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase. This development comes as Discord continues to weigh its options for going public, having considered a listing since at least March 2025. Although a confidential filing is a standard procedure in the US, it does not guarantee that the company will ultimately proceed with an IPO. A Discord spokesperson emphasized the company's focus on delivering a superior user experience and building a sustainable business. Founded in 2015, Discord has grown to attract over 350 million users and boasts 200 million monthly active users, with a combined 1.9 billion hours spent gaming each month. The company has also secured significant investments, including a $100 million funding round in 2020 and a $500 million round in 2021, valuing the company at $15 billion. However, an analyst has expressed doubt that Discord will achieve this valuation in the public market. The company's leadership has also undergone changes, with Jason Citron stepping down as CEO in 2025 and being replaced by Humam Sakhnini, who has been invited to testify before the US Congress regarding online forum user radicalization.
