Hooded Horse Refuses to Collaborate with Studios Utilizing Generative AI

Hooded Horse, a game publisher, has announced its decision to cease collaborations with development studios that incorporate generative AI in their workflow. In a statement to Kotaku, CEO Tim Bender expressed that the technology has significantly complicated the publishing process. As part of their contractual agreements with studios, Hooded Horse stipulates that generative AI assets cannot be used, even as temporary placeholders. Bender's primary concern is that these assets may inadvertently make their way into the final product, as seen in past projects. He emphasized the need for vigilance and the importance of preventing the use of generative AI in any stage of development, describing it as 'cancerous'. The games industry has witnessed a surge in the adoption of AI technology, with major companies exploring its potential. However, there is also growing resistance and debate surrounding its use, with some industry leaders emphasizing the importance of human authorship and creativity.
