Court Denies Interim Relief to Former Rockstar Employees

The Glasgow Employment Tribunal has turned down a request for interim relief from former Rockstar staff who were let go. According to reports from IGN and Bloomberg, Rockstar argued that the employees were dismissed for leaking information about the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 on a Discord server, rather than for their attempts to unionize. The case was brought by the Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain. In her judgment, Judge Frances Eccles stated that the tribunal could not conclude that the primary reason for the claimants' dismissal was their membership in the IWGB. She noted that three of the affected workers were based in Canada and were not IWGB members, and that some employees who were IWGB members or supporters were not dismissed. The judge did express concern that some staff were dismissed despite posting very little on the Discord server, and that the affected workers were not given the opportunity to respond to allegations of wrongdoing before being let go. The IWGB has expressed disappointment with the decision but remains optimistic about the full hearing, citing the judge's statement that there was no evidence of Rockstar suffering adverse consequences as a result of the postings.
