Rockstar Introduces Official Mod Marketplace
Rockstar has unveiled the Cfx Marketplace, a dedicated platform where players and servers can purchase mods. This development follows the company's acquisition of Cfx.re, a prominent modding team behind Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, in 2023. Cfx.re is known for its work on the FiveM and RedM servers, which focus on multiplayer role-playing experiences. FiveM was established in 2015, while RedM launched in 2019. Historically, Rockstar Games and its partner, Take-Two, had concerns about FiveM, labeling it an 'unauthorized alternate multiplayer server' that facilitated piracy, resulting in the ban of its key creators in 2015. However, in November 2022, the company's policy shifted, allowing the use of such servers as long as they remained non-commercial, did not misuse intellectual property, and did not interfere with official online services. The new Cfx Marketplace aims to provide a 'curated digital storefront' where creators can share and sell their mods, including props, scripts, maps, and more. At launch, the marketplace features a select group of creators, with whom Rockstar collaborated during the platform's development. While some mods are available for free, others are offered in bundles that can cost several hundred dollars. The marketplace will be rolled out in phases to ensure the best possible experience for both creators and server owners.
