Fallout Game Sales Surge During Christmas Season Following New TV Series Launch
The holiday season brought a significant boost to the Fallout franchise's sales, thanks to the premiere of the second season of the Amazon series. Video Game Insights reported notable increases in engagement and sales across all platforms. On December 29, Fallout 4 sold over 12,000 units on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox. By January 7, Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 4 saw substantial sales growth, with New Vegas selling almost 8,000 units and Fallout 3 reaching 3,000 units. The daily active user count also spiked for Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 after Christmas. Xbox saw the largest peak for Fallout 4, with nearly 100,000 players in early January, while Fallout 76 had the most daily active users when the second season premiered on December 16. According to Alinea's data, Steam experienced the highest daily active user count for returning players, rising from a weekly average of 60,000 before the second season's premiere to a peak of 120,000. The number of concurrent players on Steam has doubled since the second season started, increasing from an average of 20,000 to over 40,000. Alinea's data across all platforms showed that the second season of Fallout acted as a significant catalyst for player engagement, particularly for Fallout 76, with daily active users increasing from a pre-release baseline of 167,000 to a peak of 235,000 on December 30.
