Ubisoft Announces Staff Reductions at Abu Dhabi Mobile Studio
Ubisoft has confirmed that 29 positions have been eliminated at its Abu Dhabi office in the UAE, following social media posts from affected employees. The layoffs, which occurred in November, were a result of the company's decision to restructure its mobile studio and concentrate on Growtopia, a free-to-play MMO acquired in 2017. "As part of this restructuring, we had to make the tough decision to discontinue some projects, which unfortunately impacted 29 team members," Ubisoft stated. The Abu Dhabi studio, established in 2011, serves as the company's regional hub and has worked on various mobile titles, including those based on the CSI license. This development is the latest in a series of job cuts announced by the company, including reductions at Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft Stockholm, as well as the closure of Ubisoft Halifax. Ubisoft plans to unveil details of its Creative Houses restructuring this month, which includes the establishment of Vantage Studios, a new entity backed by Tencent that will oversee the Assassin's Creed, Rainbow Six, and Far Cry franchises.
