Sony Purges Hundreds of Low-Quality Titles from PlayStation Store
In a recent move, Sony has delisted hundreds of titles developed by ThiGames from the PlayStation Store. A visit to the developer's website reveals that the majority of links to their games are no longer functional, indicating their removal from the platform. The affected titles, often regarded as 'shovelware' due to their quick production, simplistic gameplay, and tendency to clutter the store, have been a subject of controversy among players. While some gamers utilize these games to boost their trophy collections, others view them as a nuisance. Prior to the delisting, ThiGames had one of the largest game portfolios on the PS4 and PS5 stores, surpassed only by Eastasiasoft, Ratalaika Games, and Webnetic, according to trophy hunter Rob Thanatos. However, Simon Carless from GameDiscoverCo notes that the actual number of games may be lower than reported, estimating around 150 titles, with the developer generating nearly $10 million in annual revenue. Carless expressed skepticism regarding the speculated number of games, stating that the count may be inflated due to the inclusion of multiple regional SKUs for each title. Neither ThiGames nor Sony has publicly commented on the situation.
