Oxalis Games Shifts Focus for Moonfrost, Abandons Web3 and NFTs
In a significant change of direction, indie game developer Oxalis Games has announced that it will no longer be incorporating web3 and NFTs into its upcoming cosy RPG, Moonfrost. Instead, the studio will focus on releasing the game as a premium, handcrafted title, with a planned launch on Steam and the Epic Games Store. This shift in strategy coincides with a change in leadership, as Gina Nelson assumes the role of sole CEO, replacing the previous co-CEO structure she shared with Ric Moore. Moore, who has stepped down from his position, will remain on the company's advisory board and retain a significant stake in the business. Nelson emphasized that the decision to abandon web3 and NFTs was in response to community feedback, stating that fans of cosy games value rich, immersive worlds and meaningful progression, rather than speculative earnings. The studio will prioritize craftsmanship and human creativity, rejecting the use of AI tools in favor of a more personal, hands-on approach to game development. With a renewed focus on its core values, Oxalis Games aims to create a unique and captivating gaming experience with Moonfrost, one that will stand out in a crowded market.
