According to data from Famitsu, the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold 3.78 million units in Japan in 2025, accounting for over half of all home console sales in the country. The original Switch followed in second place with 1.52 million units sold, trailed by the PlayStation 5 with 879,204 units, Xbox Series X|S with 31,226 units, and PlayStation 4 with 1,807 units. The Switch 2 experienced a remarkable launch, selling nearly one million units within its first week in Japan, making it the country's most successful console launch to date. Globally, the console surpassed 10.36 million units in sales within the first four months of its release, marking the highest figure for any Nintendo platform. In terms of physical game sales, Nintendo dominated the top ten chart for the 21st consecutive year, with Mario Kart World leading at 2.66 million units sold, followed by Pokémon Legends Z-A with combined sales of 2.5 million units across both Switch and Switch 2. The only non-Nintendo title in the top five was Capcom's Monster Hunter Wild, which sold 838,319 units on PS5. Japan's domestic games market saw significant growth, increasing by 38.8% from ¥301.32 billion in 2024 to ¥418.13 billion in 2025, primarily driven by a 49.3% rise in hardware sales. Nintendo's latest financial reports revealed a 110% surge in sales to ¥1.1 trillion and a 19.5% increase in operating profits to ¥145.1 billion.
