Pocketpair Claims Palworld Success Enables More Favorable Publishing Deals for Indies

Following the success of its popular title Palworld, developer Pocketpair has stated that it is now able to offer more favorable publishing deals to independent game developers. In an interview with The Games Business, John Buckley, head of communications and publishing at Pocketpair, noted that the company's past struggles have given it a unique perspective on the challenges faced by indie developers. With the commercial success of Palworld, Pocketpair has launched its own publishing arm, aiming to provide more equitable revenue sharing agreements to smaller studios. Buckley expressed surprise at the harsh conditions often imposed on indie developers by publishers, including significant revenue shares. Pocketpair's goal is to provide fairer deals, enabling developers to generate revenue from their initial sales, rather than having to rely on large volumes of sales. The company's ability to offer such deals stems from its current financial stability, achieved through the success of Palworld, which attracted 25 million players within its first month of release.
