Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Developers Refuse to Expand Despite Success

The indie game studio behind Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Sandfall Interactive, is choosing not to scale up despite having more resources. In a recent interview with Edge magazine, creative director Guillaume Broche and lead programmer Tom Guillermin explained that they prefer to focus on game development rather than management. Broche stated, "Having limitations can be beneficial for creativity, as it allows us to be our best selves." He also mentioned that the team's passion lies in making games, not managing. Guillermin added that the current team dynamic is strong, and expanding for its own sake is not their goal. Instead, their vision is to deliver high-quality games without feeling the need for a large team. This approach has worked well for them, as evidenced by the success of Expedition 33, which recently won Game of the Year at the 15th Annual New York Game Awards and received multiple nominations at other award shows.
