Capcom Rules Out Use of Generative AI Assets in Games
Capcom has reaffirmed its position on the use of generative AI, confirming that it will not incorporate AI-generated assets into its video games. During a recent shareholder meeting, as reported by Automaton, the company stated its intention to utilize the technology to boost productivity and efficiency in the game development process. To achieve this, Capcom is currently experimenting with various methods across different departments, including graphics, sound design, and programming. This decision comes after the company's latest financial results and a recent tech demo featuring Resident Evil Requiem, which showcased Nvidia's DLSS 5 technology and sparked criticism for its AI-enhanced character models. Previously, Capcom's technical director, Kazuki Abe, mentioned the company's experimentation with AI during the initial idea creation phase, using it to generate non-essential objects. The debate surrounding the use of generative AI in game development continues, with Pearl Abyss, the developer of Crimson Desert, recently announcing a thorough audit of its in-game assets following the unintentional inclusion of AI-generated art.
