Reforged Studios Expands Its Portfolio with Acquisition of Headup Games
Reforged Studios has finalized the acquisition of Headup Games, the publisher behind the acclaimed title Super Meat Boy 3D. The terms of the deal have not been publicly disclosed. Fortunately, the acquisition will not result in any job losses, and Headup's existing team will continue to operate unchanged. For Reforged, this move represents a crucial step in bolstering its publishing capabilities and fostering support for independent game developers. As a part of Reforged, Headup will leverage the company's extensive development and publishing network. Dieter Schoeller, the founder of Headup, will retain his role in managing the publisher's operations and has been appointed as Reforged's chief publishing officer, reporting directly to the company's founders. According to Peter van der Watt, CEO of Reforged Studios, "Headup has cultivated a highly respected and meticulously curated portfolio within the independent publishing sector." He further emphasized, "Their standing is a testament to their unwavering advocacy for developers and their distinct editorial perspective. Integrating this capability into Reforged significantly enhances our publishing platform and expedites our long-term growth strategy." Van der Watt also noted, "This acquisition is driven by our goal to establish a robust and enduring publishing home for visionary independent creators, rather than merely pursuing consolidation for its own sake." Schoeller shared his perspective on the acquisition, stating, "Our decision wasn't motivated by the pursuit of size, but rather by finding the right partners. Reforged is a company built by individuals who genuinely comprehend the gaming industry, and this shared understanding allows us to grow without compromising the unique essence of Headup."
