German Gaming Market Sees 4% Growth in 2025, Reaching €9.4 Billion
In 2025, the German gaming market experienced a 4% increase, reaching a total value of €9.4 billion, primarily driven by a surge in hardware sales. This growth is attributed to the successful launches of the Nintendo Switch 2 and the ROG Xbox Ally, according to a report by the German Games Industry Association (Game), which analyzed data from YouGov and Sensor Tower. Hardware sales saw a significant boost of 12% to €3.4 billion, with console sales rising by 26% to €1 billion. The gaming PC market also saw a 7% increase to €651 million, largely due to the introduction of the ROG Xbox Ally. Sales of gaming PC accessories grew by 13% to €1.4 billion, encompassing items such as graphics cards, input devices, monitors, and VR headsets. Conversely, console accessory sales declined by 10% to €360 million. The revenue from online gaming services rose by 7% year-over-year, exceeding €1 billion for the first time, having generated €967 million in 2024. Over a six-year period, this segment has more than doubled from €461 million in 2019. Game sales experienced a slight dip of 1% to €5 billion, while the computer and video games submarket decreased by 13% to €807 million. Felix Falk, managing director of Game, noted, 'The German games market is once again on a growth trajectory, driven primarily by innovation.' Falk further emphasized, 'The increased sales of game consoles, fueled by new devices, and the growth of online gaming services demonstrate the strong interest in new gaming offerings.' The data also indicates a shift in gaming habits in Germany, with a decline in sales from individual game purchases and a steady growth in in-game and in-app purchases. Falk added, 'Certain games have become long-running successes, building large communities over the years that receive regular updates and remain loyal. Many online gaming services also feature new games regularly, resulting in fewer overall new title purchases.'
