Eidos-Montréal Undergoes Restructuring with 124 Job Losses and Departure of Studio Head
Eidos-Montréal, the developer behind Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, has announced a significant restructuring effort, resulting in the loss of 124 jobs. Additionally, the studio's head, David Anfossi, is leaving the company after a 19-year tenure. The Embracer-owned studio cited 'changing project needs and impacts across production and support teams' as the reason for this decision. In a statement, the studio expressed its gratitude to the departing team members, emphasizing that the decision is not a reflection of their talent or performance. The studio is prioritizing support for those affected while ensuring continuity for the remaining teams. Anfossi's departure marks the end of an era, having joined the studio in 2007 as a producer. His exit is part of a transition plan, with further updates on new leadership to follow. This round of layoffs is the second in recent months, following cuts in December and earlier this year. The studio is currently focusing on co-development projects, including Microsoft's Grounded 2 and Fable. Eidos-Montréal was acquired by the Embracer Group in 2022, and the company has since undergone significant changes, including a restructuring program initiated after a major investment fell through, leading to widespread layoffs and project cancellations.
