Gamescom Expands to Latin America with Launch of Gamescom Latam in 2024
The introduction of Gamescom Latam marks a significant expansion of the Gamescom brand, building on the success of Gamescom Asia, which debuted in 2021. This new event aims to bring together the entire gaming ecosystem in Latin America, including developers, publishers, investors, and service providers. Gamescom Latam will take place from June 26 to 30, 2024, in São Paulo, Brazil, as a result of a partnership between Koelnmesse, Game, BIG Festival, and Omelete Company. According to Felix Falk, managing director of Game, the ongoing success of Gamescom demonstrates the need for events that bring the entire gaming ecosystem together. While Gamescom in Europe already attracts hundreds of thousands of attendees, Falk emphasizes that a local presence is essential for the success of such events. The BIG Festival will continue to be an integral part of Gamescom Latam, focusing on the indie games competition, awards ceremony, and showcasing games from around the world, as well as regional talent. Gustavo Steinberg, founder and executive director of BIG Festival, believes that the partnership with Gamescom will help connect local talent with global publishers and investors, fostering growth in the Latin American gaming industry. The event will also feature an industry meeting point for networking and plans to transform São Paulo into a "city of games" during the event. With the success of Gamescom Asia, which attracted over 34,000 attendees in 2023, and BIG Festival drawing 50,000 attendees annually, the potential for Gamescom Latam is substantial. The organizers are confident that the event will grow international attendance, with Steinberg expecting a stronger presence from neighboring countries, publishers, and investors. Gamescom's strong global reputation, combined with local partners, will help achieve this objective, making Gamescom Latam the largest video game event in the Latin American region.
