Take-Two Interactive Allegedly Disbands AI Team

Take-Two Interactive is reported to have dismantled its entire artificial intelligence team as part of a restructuring effort. Luke Dicken, the company's former AI head, announced on LinkedIn that his tenure with the parent company of Rockstar and Zynga had come to an end. 'For seven years, we've developed cutting-edge technology to support game development,' Dicken wrote. 'The team has consistently matched innovation with strong product design to create empowering systems for the development workflow.' Jason Leon, former senior director of AI development, added: 'Over six years, we've pushed the boundaries of what's possible by applying emerging technologies to real game development problems. However, shifting priorities from upper management have led to the dissolution of my team and my departure.' Several other team members, including former business operations manager Savannah S. and senior engineering manager Nadine Perez, also confirmed being affected by the layoffs. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick previously discussed the company's stance on AI, stating that it 'embraces AI as it always has.' Zelnick expressed enthusiasm for AI, noting that the company has 'hundreds of pilots and implementations across our company, including within our studios,' and that AI tools are driving cost and time efficiencies. However, he emphasized that tools alone do not create great entertainment properties and that creativity cannot be replaced by technology.
