Monster Hunter Rise Tops Japanese Charts with 217,000 Copies Sold

According to Famitsu data, Monster Hunter Rise was the top-selling boxed game in Japan during July, thanks to the launch of its latest expansion, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. The Capcom title sold around 217,000 copies, far outpacing the next best-seller, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, which sold approximately 112,000 copies. However, it's worth noting that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was only on the market for three days before the data was compiled. Nintendo Switch Sports maintained its strong sales, coming in third for the second consecutive month with 111,000 copies sold. Monster Hunter Rise has re-entered the charts at No.1, while other new entries include Live A Live at No.4, released on July 22, which sold around 85,000 copies. Gran Turismo 7, the only PlayStation 5 game in the top 30 best-sellers, debuted at No.9 after selling 30,000 copies in July, with 12,000 of those sold in the last week of the month. Two titles, Mario Party Superstars and Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics, have achieved one million copies sold, having launched in June 2020 and October 2021, respectively. Nintendo retained its position as the best-selling publisher in Japan, accounting for 36.1% of all physical game sales. However, Capcom jumped from No.7 to No.2 in July, with 15.1% of all boxed games sold. Over 1.3 million Switch games were sold throughout the month, making it the second-best month of 2022 so far. Nintendo dominated the market with 86.2% share, while Sony's PS4 and PS5 shares increased to 4.3% and 9.2%, respectively, after several months of decline. A total of 354,000 Switch consoles were sold in July, the second-highest month for console sales this year. Switch units accounted for 72.2% of all hardware sold, with the newer OLED model making up 34.6% of those sales. The PlayStation 5 also had its second-best sales month in 2022, with over 89,000 units sold, increasing its market share from 15.2% in June to 18.2% in July.
