Only 5% of 2022 Gaming Job Openings Were Entry-Level Positions
Recent findings indicate that a mere 5% of job openings in the gaming industry advertised in 2022 were entry-level positions. An analysis of 19,458 paid jobs and internships by jobs platform Hitmarker between January and June revealed that the majority of listings required more than one year of experience. Entry-level roles accounted for the smallest percentage, with junior positions requiring one to two years of experience making up 8.6% of the analyzed job listings. Intermediate and senior roles dominated the job market, with 44.5% of jobs requiring two to five years of experience and 41% requiring over five years of industry experience. The UK job market mirrored the global trend, with 5.9% of the 1,893 job postings being entry-level, 9.4% junior, 46.4% intermediate, and 38.1% senior. In contrast, the US job market had a lower percentage of entry-level positions, with 3.4% of the 6,822 job openings being entry-level, 6.8% junior, 39.7% intermediate, and 50% senior. Notably, the percentage of junior roles has decreased since last year, from 11% in the first half of 2021. Conversely, the number of senior job listings has increased, rising from 37.4% in the first half of 2021.
