Supercell CEO Ilkka Paananen to Receive Prestigious BAFTA Fellowship
Ilkka Paananen, the CEO and co-founder of Supercell, is set to be honoured with a BAFTA Fellowship at the upcoming BAFTA Game Awards. This recognition is a testament to his remarkable leadership and the significant impact he has made in the gaming industry, particularly through Supercell, the renowned studio behind popular mobile games such as Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, and Brawl Stars. Paananen's influence extends beyond the gaming world, as he is also a dedicated investor and mentor through his organisations, Illusian and the Ilkka Paananen Foundation, supporting initiatives that promote social and mental well-being, educational games, and social impact measurement tools for children, young people, and families. Upon receiving the news of the fellowship, Paananen expressed his gratitude, stating, "Being awarded the BAFTA Fellowship is a profound honour. Seeing my name alongside previous fellows, many of whom are my personal heroes and inspirations, is truly humbling. I have been incredibly fortunate throughout my career, but my greatest privilege has been working alongside talented and passionate game developers over the past 25 years. They are the true creators of magic, and this award is a testament to their dedication and creativity." BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip praised Paananen as a visionary leader in the gaming industry, noting his commitment to fostering creative collaboration, trust, and the development of emerging talent, values that align closely with BAFTA's mission. The presentation of the fellowship will take place at the 2026 BAFTA Games Awards with Google Play, scheduled for April 17, 2026, at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall, an event that promises to celebrate excellence in the gaming industry, with Sandfall Interactive's Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 leading the nominations in 12 categories, including Best Game.
