Roblox Introduces Age-Based Accounts and Enhanced Parental Controls for a Safer Experience
Roblox has announced the launch of two new age-based accounts for minors, Roblox Kids for children aged five to eight and Roblox Select for users aged nine to 15, alongside expanded parental controls. These new accounts, set to launch in June, aim to align content access, communication settings, and parental controls more closely with a user's age. The company is introducing a unified framework that combines age-checks, account-level defaults, content ratings, ongoing moderation, and enhanced parental controls to ensure a safer environment for younger users. Roblox is also establishing an ongoing selection process for games available to users under 16, which includes developer verification, extended content evaluation, and rating, as well as additional limits on content more suited to older audiences. Age-checked users 16 and older will not see any changes to their experience, while minor accounts will automatically transition at the appropriate ages. New parental controls permit parents to better manage content ratings, communications settings, screen time, and spending limits, providing transparent information on what games their children are playing and who they interact with. Parents can also extend granular game blocking, manage direct chat settings, and approve access to specific games. This update is part of Roblox's ongoing effort to build age-appropriate experiences, apply safety-by-default protections, and provide parents with more visibility and control over their children's use of the platform.
