Discover the Top UK Video Game Industry Workplaces
Over the past year, the global video game industry has been marred by disturbing reports of workplace misconduct, including abusive management, illegal activities, mass layoffs, and toxic gaming communities. However, these issues do not define the entire industry. For most professionals, the video game industry is a vibrant and inspiring field. In the following pages, we will delve into the experiences of employees at the top 20 UK video game companies, as ranked by their staff. This year, nearly 80 companies participated in the awards, with a consensus that the industry is a rewarding and creative field, filled with talented individuals striving to produce exceptional products. Although some companies fell short of winning, areas for improvement are evident, such as limited training and development opportunities, inconsistent diversity initiatives, and inadequate staffing. To address these shortcomings, we have provided participating companies with their employee feedback, highlighting areas for growth. Through this feature and others, we will showcase our 20 winning companies as examples of how businesses can enhance their employees' lives. Hosting the Best Places To Work Awards during this challenging time was a daunting task. This year's event not only celebrates outstanding employers but also serves as a reminder that there are numerous positive workplaces, inspiring leaders, and change-makers within the industry. It is also an opportunity to share stories and case studies that can educate UK businesses on how to best support their most valuable resource - their people. Each participating company received two surveys: one for employers, which assessed benefits, compensation, vacation time, diversity, growth, stability, and more, and another for employees, which included statements about their management, company culture, technical support, and workload. The employer survey accounted for 25% of the final score, while employee responses made up the remaining 75%. All 20 of our winning companies achieved an overall score of 85% or higher, demonstrating their commitment to providing a positive work environment.
