PlayStation Introduces Age Verification in the UK and Ireland
Sony has initiated the rollout of age verification for PlayStation users in the UK and Ireland, in compliance with the UK's Online Safety Act. Currently, age verification is voluntary but will become compulsory from June 2026, as indicated on the official support page. Failure to verify age may result in limited access to communication features, including voice and text chat, messaging, and content sharing. Additionally, users may experience restricted access to in-game features such as chat, messaging, and content sharing for games that have their own communication tools. Sony utilizes Yoti, the same age verification service used by Microsoft for Xbox, offering users multiple verification methods, including government-issued ID, facial scan, or mobile provider check. The purpose of age verification is to ensure an age-appropriate experience and support online safety, as stated by Sony.
