People Can Fly Acquires Cooldown Games to Expand Publishing Operations
In a strategic move to bolster its publishing capabilities, Warsaw-based game developer People Can Fly has acquired Cooldown Games. The acquisition will see People Can Fly establish a dedicated publishing division within its organizational structure. Founded in 2024 by industry experts from renowned companies such as Gearbox, Id Software, and Warner, Cooldown Games is based in Dallas, Texas. As part of the acquisition, People Can Fly will offer growth capital and operational support for Cooldown's current and upcoming titles, including those slated for release in 2026 and 2027. The two companies have previously collaborated on the development of Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition. According to People Can Fly, this acquisition is a key component of its strategy to enhance its publishing activities, increase revenue from owned intellectual properties, and introduce a new revenue stream. The move is expected to generate recurring revenue through third-party publishing and facilitate future mergers, acquisitions, and intellectual property monetization initiatives. People Can Fly's CEO, Sebastian Wojciechowski, stated that the acquisition is based on the company's trust in the Cooldown Games team and its approach to establishing a revenue-generating publishing segment from the outset. Wojciechowski added that the acquisition will enable People Can Fly to build on its publishing foundation, strengthen its ability to bring games to market globally, and increase its control over commercial outcomes. Cooldown Games CEO Steve Gibson expressed his excitement about joining People Can Fly, citing the benefits of increased scale, resources, and long-term stability. Gibson also highlighted the companies' shared goal of championing exceptional developers and bringing great games to players worldwide. The acquisition follows People Can Fly's decision to pause development on Project Gemini and Bitfrost last June due to issues with a publisher, which resulted in a reduction in team size. Currently, People Can Fly is working on several projects, including Xeno Point with Krafton, Project Delta with Sony Interactive Entertainment, and Gears of War: E-Day with Xbox Game Studios.
