Ubisoft Loses Key Talent as Benoit Richer Departs to Co-Found Servo Games

Notable game director Benoit Richer has made the move from Ubisoft to co-establish Servo Games, an independent game development studio based in Quebec. This transition was announced via LinkedIn, where Richer also disclosed his new position as game director at the studio. Previously, Richer held the role of game director for the highly anticipated Assassin's Creed title, Codename Hexe. At Servo Games, he is joined by fellow industry veterans, including Luc Tremblay, Alex Drouin, and Dany Marcoux, who collectively bring a wealth of experience in game development. Richer's career in the gaming industry began in 2001 at Ubisoft Montréal as a level designer, followed by stints at Electronic Arts and WB Games Montréal, before returning to Ubisoft Montréal as a game director to lead the development of Codename Hexe. His departure marks the third significant loss for the Codename Hexe project, following the exits of former franchise lead Marc-Alexis Côté and creative director Clint Hocking. The project has since seen changes in its leadership, with Jean Guesdon appointed as the new creative director. Initially announced in 2022, Codename Hexe is one of several titles currently in development at Vantage Studios, as confirmed by Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot.
