Roblox Unveils AI-Powered Upscaler for Photorealistic Graphics

Roblox has introduced a revolutionary upscaler, dubbed Roblox Reality, designed to generate photorealistic graphics on top of its core engine. According to Anupam Singh, Roblox's vice president of engineering, this innovation combines the existing Roblox Cloud and Game Engine with AI-driven Video World Models to enhance rendering details such as lighting, textures, and motion. A demonstration video showcased the tool's capabilities by transforming existing games, including the popular Grow A Garden, into more realistic experiences. Singh emphasized that Roblox Reality will significantly reduce development time, costs, and computational requirements, making it faster and more efficient for creators to produce photorealistic games. However, the company acknowledges the high computational costs associated with this technology and is working on solutions to optimize and improve its efficiency. An early version of Roblox Reality is expected to be released later this year or early 2027. CEO David Baszucki described the technology as a hybrid architecture that leverages the strengths of both the Roblox Engine and Video World Models, predicting that it will remove barriers to high-fidelity creation and enable small teams to build complex, photorealistic games in a short span. Recently, Roblox reported a 39% revenue growth to $1.4 billion and a 43% increase in bookings to $1.7 billion in its Q1 financials, but also noted that recent safety features and age checks have reduced its 2026 growth outlook, with anticipated full-year bookings growth of 8% to 12% and revenue growth of 20% to 25%.
