ESA Foundation Empowers 31 University Students with Scholarships for Careers in Gaming and Esports
The ESA Foundation has awarded 31 university students with scholarships ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 to pursue careers in the gaming and esports industries. The foundation offers two types of scholarships: the Computer and Video Game Arts and Sciences Scholarship and the Esports Scholarship. In addition to financial support, recipients are provided with mentorship sessions and the chance to attend prominent industry events like the GDC Festival of Gaming. The 2026-27 scholarship cohort comprises students from various US universities, including the University of Oregon, UC Berkeley, Stanford, Yale, the University of Southern California, Howard University, Dartmouth, and Tennessee Tech University. According to ESA Foundation Scholar 2026 Xavier Gonzalez, "The scholarship program has been instrumental in supporting my career aspirations by connecting me with like-minded individuals who share my passions and ambitions. Beyond the financial assistance, it has given me the opportunity to network with industry professionals, learn from their experiences, and gain confidence in my chosen path." Gonzalez further emphasized, "Knowing that there are organizations and individuals willing to invest in students like me has been a significant source of motivation. The program has reinforced the idea that a career in the gaming industry is not just a dream, but a tangible goal that I can work towards and achieve." The ESA Foundation also successfully raised $1.15 million at its annual Nite to Unite fundraiser, sponsored by IGN Entertainment. These funds supported the current year's scholarships as well as initiatives focused on workforce development, accessibility, wellness, and inclusion. To date, the ESA Foundation has raised over $24 million and awarded more than 475 scholarships to support underrepresented youth. ESA Foundation executive director Sue Madden noted, "The creation of exceptional games and thriving esports communities relies on individuals with passion, innovative ideas, and the drive to make a lasting impact. Our scholarship program is designed to help students transform their passion into a viable career path within the video game industry."
