Alpha Dog Games Regains Independence After Microsoft Acquisition

Following its closure in 2024, Alpha Dog Games, the development team behind Mighty Doom, has reestablished itself as an independent entity. According to a statement provided to GamesIndustry.biz, co-founder Shawn Woods revealed that the studio has continued to invest in its technological and developmental infrastructure over recent months. Woods conveyed his appreciation to Microsoft for their cooperation during the transition, enabling the studio to regain its independence. "The return of our studio's name to our ownership is a source of immense pride and excitement for us," Woods stated. Although the developer is not yet prepared to disclose specific projects or long-term strategies, they are currently exploring collaborations with various partners, publishers, and licensors. The recent resurgence of interest in Alpha Dog Games has surpassed the team's expectations, with the community's passion serving as a poignant reminder of the significance of their games to players worldwide. Founded in 2012 by Woods and Jeff Cameron in Nova Scotia, Alpha Dog Games was acquired by Bethesda in October 2019, only to be closed by Xbox in 2024, along with other studios such as Arkane Austin, Tango Gameworks, and Roundhouse.
