John Romero to Deliver Keynote at Gamescom Asia x Thailand Game Show
The organizers of Gamescom Asia x Thailand Game Show have revealed that John Romero, co-founder of id Software, will be the keynote speaker at this year's conference in Bangkok. Romero's keynote, titled 'Why We Still Make Games,' will reflect on his lifetime of experience in the gaming industry, including overcoming obstacles and navigating decades of change. Other speakers at the event include Nick Herman and Dennis Lenart of AdHoc Studio, Roblox's Zhen Fang, Jane Lau of Tencent, Emilio Coppola of Godot, and Yoan Fanise of DigixArt. The event is scheduled to take place from October 29th to November 1st in Bangkok. Romero, who currently runs Romero Games with his wife Brenda, has been vocal about the challenges facing the gaming industry. After being forced to lay off staff due to a publisher pulling funding for a project, the company has shifted its focus to developing a smaller-scale indie shooter. Following a successful partnership with Thailand Game Show in 2025, Gamescom Asia is expanding its floor space by 20% to 35,000 square meters. The event has already attracted a number of high-profile exhibitors, including Nintendo, Capcom, and AMD. According to Prakash Ramajillu, General Manager of Asia-Pacific at Koelnmesse, 'Last year's event proved that Bangkok is capable of hosting a world-class gaming event, and this year we are raising the bar in every aspect – more space, more brands, more experiences, and a legendary figure in the gaming world taking the stage.'
