Unveiling a New Chapter: Cyan Lifts the Veil on a Discarded Myst Game Prototype and Announces a Fresh Project

Cyan Worlds has officially announced that a new installment in the esteemed Myst series has entered its early development phase. The revelation was made by co-heads Hannah Gamiel and Eric Anderson during the studio's annual State of the Union address at the Mysterium fan convention, held on July 26. They shed light on a hitherto unseen prototype, codenamed Project Anglerfish, which was pitched to publishers in 2024 and 2025 but ultimately did not move forward. As part of a broader segment dubbed 'Paths Not (yet) Taken', the studio showcased various unreleased or reworked concepts from the past twenty years. These included the early design stages of Obduction, as well as projects known as Lyft and DiSC. Moving forward, Cyan has confirmed that a new title set within the Myst universe, codenamed Mudfish, is currently in its early development stages. Although no specific release window or platform details have been disclosed, the studio is pushing ahead with its plans. Additionally, Cyan outlined plans to release physical editions of its remastered Myst and Riven games for PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC. The console versions will be shipped on disc, while the PC copies will include a digital code. The studio is also set to re-release deluxe physical editions of three novels tied to the Myst universe: The Book of Atrus, The Book of Ti'ana, and The Book of D'ni, which were initially published approximately three decades ago.
