Assassin's Creed Odyssey Sees Significant Uptick in Daily Active Users After Christopher Nolan Film Release

The release of Christopher Nolan's film on July 17 sparked a notable increase in daily active users for Assassin's Creed Odyssey across all platforms, despite minimal promotional efforts from Ubisoft. According to Aliena Analytics, the game experienced a 90% increase in engagement on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox, with daily active users rising from 122,000 on the film's opening day to 233,000 within ten days - approximately 1.8 times higher than pre-release levels. The majority of players were on Xbox, where daily active users surged 134% from 36,000 to 84,000, while PlayStation nearly doubled to 114,000 and Steam saw a 26% increase. Rhys Elliott, head of market analysis at Aliena Analytics, attributes the console spikes to the game's availability on subscription services such as Game Pass and PlayStation Plus. Data from Video Game Insights supports these findings, with combined daily active users rising from over 150,000 on the film's premiere date to 238,000 by July 26. 'While software sales were modest, with around 400,000 copies sold year-to-date, the significant increase in player engagement is a key takeaway,' said Elliot. 'The film didn't lead to millions of new game purchases, but it prompted a large group of players to revisit the game, providing Ubisoft with valuable insights for a potential AC Odyssey Resynced.' Similar trends have been observed with television adaptations of popular game franchises, such as the Fallout series, which saw a 225% increase in daily active users for Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 after the premiere of the Prime series.
