Xbox CEO Unveils Strategic Plan to Revitalize the Platform by FY27

In a bid to reverse Xbox's decline, Asha Sharma has outlined a comprehensive plan emphasizing console-driven growth, support for global franchises, and a renewed focus on Minecraft as a creator platform. Sharma emphasized the importance of learning from past successes and failures, stating, "We will learn from both and put our energy into creating what players will love for decades." The strategy includes building long-term plans for major franchises, expanding partnerships globally, and investing heavily in Minecraft to enhance player experiences and creative tools. By FY30, Xbox aims to achieve sustained double-digit growth in players and engagement, with industry-leading margins. Despite adding over 200 million new players in FY26, the business failed to grow in tandem with its audience. Sharma acknowledged the need to bridge this gap by investing in what players value, anticipating a return to growth by the end of 2027. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella expressed confidence in the company's ability to reset the business for long-term growth, following necessary decisions including layoffs and studio divestments. With a strong IP portfolio and talented studios worldwide, Xbox is poised to combine these strengths and revive its growth trajectory in fiscal 2027.
