Refactor Games, Developer of FIFA World Cup, Allegedly Closed by Delphi Interactive

Reports have emerged that Refactor Games, the developer behind the FIFA World Cup game, has been closed down by its part-owner, Delphi Interactive. According to former employees, the studio was shut down shortly after the release of FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition. Refactor Games, a US-based studio, initially released Football Simulator in early access in 2022, which was developed by a team comprising former developers from EA Sports, 2K Sports, and OneTeam Partners. The studio then collaborated with Delphi on FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition, an exclusive title for Netflix Games launched in June 2026. Although Netflix described the game as a 'top-tier' performer, it received criticism from reviewers for its controls, graphics, and poor AI. Former employees have taken to LinkedIn to share the news of the studio's closure, with one stating that Delphi 'pulled the plug' on the studio after the game's release. Another affected employee attributed the closure to a loss of funding. Delphi had previously confirmed its part-ownership of Refactor Games in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, but the exact number of people affected by the closure remains unclear. Delphi Interactive and Refactor Games have yet to respond to requests for comment on the matter.
