Roblox May Be Subject to Stricter EU Regulations Due to Its Large User Base

Roblox is potentially the first gaming platform to be designated as a very large online platform under EU legislation. According to a spokesperson for the EU Commission, this classification is possible due to Roblox's user numbers exceeding the Digital Services Act threshold. The platform reported an average of 48 million monthly active users in the EU for the six months ending February 13, 2026, surpassing the 45 million threshold. As a result, Roblox may need to comply with stricter regulations, including identifying and assessing systemic risks, implementing measures to address these risks, and providing access to platform data for research purposes. The company would also need to establish an internal compliance function, undergo annual audits, and share data with the EU Commission and national authorities. Failure to comply with these regulations could result in penalties, including fines of up to 6% of global turnover.
