Tripledot Studios Purchases Supersonic from Unity in $40 Million Deal
In a recent development, Tripledot Studios has finalized the acquisition of Supersonic, a mobile publisher, from Unity for a sum of $40 million. This move follows Unity's earlier announcement to divest Supersonic after discontinuing its IronSource network. Supersonic initially became a part of Unity through a $4.4 billion all-stock merger with IronSource in 2022. As per the agreement, Supersonic will continue to function as an independent entity under the Tripledot Group umbrella, retaining its current management team and base in Tel Aviv. According to Supersonic CEO Igor Bereslavski, this integration offers the company a new home with specialized resources for scaled game publishing, including enhanced capital, technology, and user acquisition capabilities. Bereslavski emphasized that the core team, tools, and support for developer partners will remain unchanged, now backed by more substantial resources. Lior Shiff, co-founder and CEO of Tripledot, noted that with AI reducing game development barriers, small studios face challenges in marketing and scaling their games to a large audience. He believes that together with Lion Studios, the combined entity can better support more studios worldwide, leveraging superior technology. This acquisition follows Tripledot's purchase of AppLovin's mobile games business for $800 million last year, which added ten studios and expanded its reach into the US and Asian markets. Recently, Unity reported its strongest quarter to date, attributing the success to its core game engine and the AI-driven advertising and user-acquisition platform, Vector.
