Sega Sees 17.3% Boost in Quarterly Net Sales, Driven by Strong Game Performance
Sega Sammy has announced a significant 17.3% increase in net sales for the first quarter, with its Entertainment Contents segment, which encompasses games, surpassing expectations with ¥68.4 billion ($432 million) in sales. Although major new title launches are scheduled for the third quarter onwards, the company reported that overall net sales and operating income were largely in line with or exceeded expectations. Key highlights for the quarter ending June 30, 2026, include net sales of ¥95 billion ($600 million), up 17.3%, and Entertainment Contents net sales of ¥68.4 billion ($432 million), representing a 1.1% increase. Operating income stood at ¥2.3 billion ($14.5 million), a notable improvement from the operating loss of $3.5 million in the same period last year. The company experienced strong performance in full-game sales and licensing revenue, including from Rovio. However, free-to-play games fell slightly short of expectations, prompting plans to strengthen operations of existing titles. Looking ahead, key full-game titles such as Stranger Than Heaven and Persona 4 Revival are set to launch sequentially from Q3 onwards, with Sega aiming to build anticipation and maximize sales. The company is also optimistic about licensing revenue growth, driven by anniversaries, key IP adaptations, and new Rovio titles. Despite recording a $200 million impairment loss on Rovio due to market changes and the inability to fully integrate its Beacon technology, Sega remains focused on its strategic objectives.
