Later this month, Xbox will start introducing age verification measures for its users in Australia. This move is in accordance with the country's online safety regulations, which require users to verify their age before playing R18+ games on Xbox and Microsoft stores for both console and PC. A recent notification sent to users states that age verification is mandatory for accessing certain content. The verification process will be managed by VerifyMy, a London-based tech firm, and users can verify their age through various methods including email, facial scan, credit card, or government-issued ID. This development follows similar moves by Sony, which introduced age verification for PlayStation users in the UK and Ireland earlier this year. Failure to verify age may result in restricted access to certain features such as voice and text chat, messaging, and content sharing. The introduction of age verification is part of the gaming industry's efforts to comply with evolving online safety laws and regulations.
