Supermassive Games Implements Restructuring, Affecting Up to 75 Employees

Supermassive Games has initiated a third round of layoffs within a three-year period, with the potential impact on up to 75 positions. In an official statement, the company explained that this decision is a crucial measure to ensure the long-term viability of the business. The developer emphasized that its primary focus will be on providing support to those affected during this challenging time. This move follows a previous restructuring in July, where 36 roles were eliminated as the studio postponed the release of its horror game, Directive 8020, from October 2025 to May 2026. At that time, the company acknowledged the industry's ongoing challenges and the need to adapt its team structure accordingly. Directive 8020 received mixed reviews upon its release and reportedly sold around 447,000 units across various platforms, including Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox. In February 2024, Supermassive Games underwent another round of layoffs, affecting approximately 90 employees, as the company entered a consultation period. The studio attributed this decision to the significant challenges facing the industry, emphasizing its commitment to focusing on core strengths and upcoming titles to ensure the company's continued sustainability.
