Saber Interactive Addresses Allegations of Replacing Writer with AI Technology

In a recent turn of events, Saber Interactive's CEO, Matt Karch, has addressed accusations that the company replaced a writer with AI on their upcoming game, Rideshare Simulator. Karch stated that the former lead writer, Stella Sacco, was terminated due to a confidentiality agreement breach and was replaced by someone more talented a few months later. The controversy began when Sacco publicly alleged that she was removed from the project and replaced with ChatGPT. Saber Interactive initially denied the allegations, stating that no writers were replaced with AI and that the game's story was written entirely by humans. However, the company did acknowledge that an experimental mode in the game incorporates AI due to the infinite number of passengers. The game's Steam page currently lacks AI disclosure, which is required by Valve for games with generative AI content. Karch has since clarified that the Steam page will be updated once the feature set is finalized, and the company is embracing the experimental mode as a feature rather than hiding it.
