Rainbow Six Siege Suffers Holiday Downtime Due to Hack
The popular game Rainbow Six Siege experienced significant disruptions over the holidays after a hacking incident forced Ubisoft to intentionally take the game offline. The company's service status page continues to report unplanned issues with connectivity, authentication, in-game store, and matchmaking, even after the initial incident was reported on December 27. Following the hack, which saw thousands of accounts affected and a large amount of in-game currency and items distributed, the development team temporarily shut down the game to investigate. After reversing all transactions that occurred during the hack, the team implemented a soft launch on December 29, allowing players to return to the game in a controlled manner. Ubisoft has assured players that they will not be penalized for using any of the in-game items or currency that were incorrectly allocated during the hack. The cause of the incident is still under investigation, with the company confirming that a recent ban wave was unrelated to the hacking incident.
