Gamesight Study Reveals Significant Conversion Rate Boost from Improved Steam Reviews

Achieving higher Steam review scores can substantially enhance ad performance, especially when game developers prioritize community feedback and implement updates that address player concerns. According to Gamesight's Performance Marketing Playbook, transitioning review scores from 'Mixed' to 'Very Positive' can lead to a significant increase in conversion rates when developers incorporate features such as bug fixes and game patches. In contrast, the study found that review scores have minimal impact on conversion rates for free-to-play titles, likely due to the absence of a cost barrier for players. However, community trust remains crucial, particularly for in-game monetization post-install. The analysis highlights the importance of factors like game patches, bug fixes, and player-requested features in improving sentiment. A case study of a single game with a 21-month campaign demonstrates a strong correlation between review scores and conversion rates. Notably, the conversion rate spiked when the game achieved an 'Overwhelmingly Positive' rank after adding a highly requested feature. While this study focuses on one game, similar patterns were observed across data from 46 titles. The findings suggest that listening to player feedback and enhancing the game accordingly can lead to improved campaign performance and long-term benefits. Consistently maintaining positive ratings throughout a campaign can also help stabilize conversion rates.
