Sony and Tencent Reach Settlement in Lawsuit Over Alleged Game Clone
A legal dispute between Sony and Tencent has been resolved, with the two companies reaching a settlement over claims that Tencent's game, Light of Motiram, bore striking similarities to Sony's Horizon series. The terms of the agreement have not been disclosed, and as a result, Sony's lawsuit against Tencent has been dismissed with prejudice, preventing the Japanese gaming giant from pursuing further legal action on the matter. Each party will cover their own legal costs. The lawsuit, filed in July 2025, alleged that Light of Motiram was a 'slavish clone' of Horizon Zero Dawn and other games in the Horizon franchise. Sony claimed that Tencent had previously pitched to develop a game in the Horizon series but was rejected, only to release a similar game, Light of Motiram, shortly after. In response, Tencent accused Sony of attempting to monopolize genre conventions and transform common game elements into proprietary assets. The case was set to go to court in January 2026, but Tencent halted marketing and testing for Light of Motiram in December, and the game remains delisted on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
