Wizards of the Coast Appoints Blizzard Alum Paul Della Bitta to Lead Games Division
Wizards of the Coast has appointed veteran gaming executive Paul Della Bitta, formerly of Blizzard, to oversee its Digital Ventures games division. According to Bloomberg, Bitta will report directly to company president John Hight. With over a decade of experience at Blizzard, as well as tenure at Superplay, Molten Games, and Riot, Bitta also co-founded Dreamhaven, where he led the publishing business. Meanwhile, James Ohlen, co-founder of Archetype Entertainment, is transitioning out of his role, although he will remain a creative consultant. Ohlen, who joined Wizards of the Coast in 2019 after retiring from BioWare, has been asked to refocus his creative efforts on tabletop RPGs. A company spokesperson stated that Ohlen felt his work on the game was complete and that the team was well-equipped to handle polishing and tuning. Archetype, which was announced in January 2020, unveiled its debut project, Exodus, at The Game Awards 2023, with a planned launch in early 2027. The game's intellectual property is intended to serve as a foundation for various projects, not just video games. Hasbro has invested heavily in the gaming space, with $1 billion allocated to in-development projects. At The Game Awards 2025, Wizards of the Coast also announced Warlock: Dungeons and Dragons, developed by Invoke Studios, which is set to launch in 2027.
