Court Dismisses Former Bungie Director's Lawsuit Due to Lack of Jurisdiction Over Financial Damages
A lawsuit filed by former Bungie director Chris Barratt against his ex-employer and Sony has been dismissed by the Court of Chancery in Delaware due to a lack of jurisdiction over monetary claims. Barratt had initiated the lawsuit in December 2024, alleging that Bungie and Sony had intentionally damaged his reputation by falsely implying he was under investigation for sexual misconduct, and to avoid paying him $45 million. Following an internal investigation into allegations of inappropriate behavior towards female colleagues, Barratt was terminated by Bungie. His lawyers argued that the company's actions were motivated by a desire to shift blame and distract from their business failures. The court's decision to dismiss the case was based on its limited jurisdiction, which only extends to equitable claims, requests for equitable relief, or cases where jurisdiction is granted by statute. With the Court of Chancery lacking subject matter jurisdiction, Barratt is now expected to escalate the matter to the Delaware Superior Court.
