Unity allegedly sets $250,000 minimum spending requirement for top clients
Reports suggest that Unity is implementing an annual charge for its major Enterprise clients, with a minimum spending requirement of $250,000 to $2 million, depending on the game's revenue. This amount is said to be applied to the purchase of Unity subscription licenses and support products. An email purportedly sent to customers indicates that this minimum spending requirement is determined by the game's total revenue over the preceding 12 months. This charge appears to be in addition to a 5% price increase set to take effect on January 12 for Enterprise and Pro customers. According to the email, customers required to use Unity Enterprise will be subject to the Unity Enterprise Minimum Commitment Program, which mandates a minimum spending amount at the start of each subscription year. This amount is calculated based on the previous year's gross revenue, as outlined in a provided table. The table reveals that Unity-based games with a gross revenue of $25 million or more in the previous year will be required to meet the minimum spending requirement of $250,000, with the amount increasing accordingly. This development follows a previous decision to introduce, and subsequently scrap, a Runtime Fee for Unity games that reached certain installation and revenue thresholds, which sparked significant backlash. Unity was approached for comment.
