Baldur's Gate 3 Surpasses 20 Million Copies Sold
The highly acclaimed RPG, Baldur's Gate 3, has achieved a significant sales milestone, with over 20 million copies sold to date. According to a recent interview with Larian Studios' founder, CEO, and creative director, Swen Vincke, the game's sales have exceeded 20 million units, marking a 5 million increase since the last official count in 2024. Vincke discussed the studio's experience working with Wizards of the Coast on another title, which was ultimately cancelled due to the team's lack of passion for the project. "All the ingredients for a great game were there, except the developers' hearts," he stated. Larian Studios is currently working on a new title in its Divinity franchise, announced at The Game Awards 2025, and has experimented with incorporating AI into the development process. However, Vincke emphasized that AI will not be used for game content, instead relying on human actors and in-house writing. The studio's majority owner, Vincke, acknowledged the importance of Tencent's minority investment, citing it as essential for the company's growth and confidence. With a staff of 530 across seven locations, Larian Studios has experienced significant expansion, but Vincke noted that growth also brings new challenges and responsibilities. The success of Baldur's Gate 3, which launched into Early Access in 2020 and officially released in August 2023, has paved the way for the studio's future projects.
