Tencent Acquires Minority Stake in French Game Developer Drama Studios

Tencent, a Chinese technology and entertainment conglomerate, has acquired a minority stake in Drama Studios, a French game development company. Although the financial details of the deal remain undisclosed, the studio has announced that the funds will be utilized to expand its team and expedite the development of Unrecord, a hyper-realistic first-person shooter. Previously, Drama Studios had secured $2.5 million in seed funding from The Games Fund. Unrecord is currently ranked ninth in the Steam wishlist charts. Theo Hiribarne, CEO and founder of Drama Studios, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that Tencent's support will enable the studio to reach its full potential. Mark Maslowicz, VP of partnerships at Tencent Games Europe, praised Drama Studios' creativity and progress, emphasizing that the investment will help the studio deliver exceptional games. This move marks a notable investment by Tencent, which has been more cautious in its spending in recent years, following a period of significant investments in Western game studios. The company has also recently invested in Ubisoft, backing the development of a new subsidiary called Vantage Studios.
