Hollow Knight: Silksong Achieves 7 Million Sales Milestone in Just Three Months
In the three months since its launch, Hollow Knight: Silksong has surpassed seven million copies sold. This figure does not account for the additional millions of players who have accessed the game through Xbox Game Pass, as noted by Team Cherry in their year-end reflection. To commemorate this achievement, the developer has announced the game's first major expansion, titled Sea of Sorrow, which is set to release for free next year and will feature new areas, bosses, and tools in an oceanic setting. Furthermore, Team Cherry has revealed plans for Hollow Knight: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, scheduled for launch in 2026, which will include enhanced frame rates, higher resolutions, and improved graphics, with the update being free for players who purchased the original Switch version. Prior to this release, Hollow Knight will receive a platform-wide update to introduce new features and fix bugs. Team Cherry expressed their astonishment at the game's success, stating, 'The number of players is truly staggering, far exceeding our expectations.' The community's growth, with its impressive fan art, mods, and player support, has been a significant motivator for the team as they continue to expand the game. The September 4 release of Silksong broke multiple records, becoming one of the most played games of all time in terms of concurrent players, according to SteamDB. It reached a peak of 535,213 concurrent players on Steam and was the most wishlisted game of 2025, with over 4.5 million wishlists. The game received widespread critical acclaim, with a Metacritic score of 90, and is hailed as a worthy follow-up to the 2017 original.
