Romero Games Develops New Smaller Shooter Inspired by Cancelled Project
Following the cancellation of its highly anticipated first-person shooter by the publisher, Ireland-based Romero Games has revealed it is working on a new, smaller-scale project. According to John Romero, the game's elements will be borrowed from the cancelled title, which had a significant investment of $50 million. Romero stated that despite the cancellation, the studio has 'survived' and is now focusing on this new, 'completely redesigned' game. The team, comprising experienced directors from various departments, is enthusiastic about the project, which will be more enjoyable for them as they can now directly contribute to coding, designing, and other aspects. This shift is seen as a positive move, highlighting the benefits of smaller teams. The original game's cancellation was announced in July after the publisher, reportedly Microsoft, pulled funding amidst a major restructuring process involving significant job cuts and project cancellations.
